Sebastopol, CA — LeafWorks Inc., a botanical genomics company serving the natural products, dietary supplement, food, and agricultural industries, today announced the upcoming expansion of its analytical platform to include expert macroscopic and high-magnification microscopic botanical identification services in partnership with expert microscopist, Kirsten Tripplett.
Scheduled to launch soon, this expansion will integrate classical morphological expertise alongside LeafWorks’ genomic testing platform, further strengthening the company’s comprehensive approach to botanical identity verification.
As global supply chains grow more complex and regulatory scrutiny increases, ingredient identity verification demands more than a single analytical approach. While LeafWorks’ DNA testing platform provides highly accurate and high throughput species-level resolution, morphological and microscopic analysis offers highly complementary insight into plant part verification, adulteration and identification of contaminants or foreign matter that may not be detectable through other methods alone.
To support this upcoming launch, LeafWorks is partnering with Kirsten Tripplett, Ph.D., a botanical microscopy expert with decades of anatomical and morphological experience and 13 years in the dietary supplement industry. A requested author of two United States Pharmacopeia (USP) monographs on microscopy methodologies, Dr. Tripplett’s techniques have been recognized during FDA audit as a well-substantiated and recommended approach to validated botanical identification.
LeafWorks’ new Botanical Microscopy & Morphological Identification Services will include:
“We are proud to expand the breadth of identity validation available to our clients,” said Kerin Law, Ph.D., Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of LeafWorks. “By uniting genomic precision with classical morphological expertise, we provide robust, regulator-ready verification that elevates product quality, enhances transparency, and builds lasting consumer trust.”
Upon launch, microscopy services will be available as a stand-alone identification method or bundled with LeafWorks’ DNA ID testing to provide an orthogonal testing framework aligned with FDA expectations for appropriate botanical identification methods.
With this expansion, LeafWorks continues to build a robust botanical testing platform — from genome to morphology — supporting accurate identification across the natural products industry.
